Why Middle School Parents Should Join WABB…

Why are we called Westwood AREA Band Boosters (WABB) but we’re asking Middle School parents to join our organization?
We are called Westwood AREA band boosters because in addition to supporting the band program at Westwood High School, we also support the band programs and students at Grisham and Canyon Vista middle schools. So if your band student is in the area that feeds into Westwood High School we are supporting him or her as well.

How much does the WABB give to Canyon Vista and Grisham Middle Schools?
We give $25,000 a year to each of the two schools. So $50,000 of WABB’s fundraising efforts go to our feeder middle schools. The middle schools use this money to pay for percussion instruction, middle school band camp scholarships, private lessons, master classes, director conferences, and instruments.

Why does WABB give so much to CVMS and GMS?
Our directors and parents know that building strong musicians starts from the beginning. Giving our middle school students the opportunity to learn and grow early on makes them stronger musicians and just makes it more fun. We all are happier doing things when we feel good at it, so we want to give these young musicians every opportunity to excel.

What can I do to help?
Information will be coming soon in your child’s band packet on how you can join WABB.  You should also consider volunteering to help with concessions at your middle school and/or click on the volunteer link above and come experience a WHS football game and volunteer there!
